Day 2 - Really Tough

SULTON TO LEAVENWORTH

Today was a challenge. We rode for 76 miles and climbed over 4,000 feet through Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains of Western Washington State. There is no other way to describe it. "I am exhausted!" Nothing hurts. My butt is fine. My arms and neck and feet are all fine. It is just that I run out of energy to pedal one more time around. For the last 10 miles coming up the pass we were on a six degree grade. It was like I was stuck in hardening concrete. I decided to walk the last two miles and in the process learned a lot about my companion, enjoyed nature, and was able to think. I realized it is impossible to think when every ounce of energy is being expended in pedaling. I wonder if that is also true when one is poor.

Tomorrow we repeat the process through another pass. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support. Lou
