Day 9 & 10 Pendleton to La Grande and La Grande to Baker City
Wednesday Afternoon July 9th:
We are in Baker City. Short ride, only 50 plus miles. I remember riding from Grand Rapids to Lansing three months ago, about 55 miles, and doing it in about six plus hours with a short breakfast break. Today I did just about the same distance plus climbing 650 feet and having a drink break in the small western town of Haines. The total time was less than five hours. My legs still get rubbery and my breathing comes in gasps at times but conditioning is taking place. Every day the sky is brilliant blue, cloudless, and today in the low 90s.
I did something I have never done before. I jumped the fence and stood in an alfalfa field with the irrigation sprinklers on. It felt so good.

Lou; I'm glad to hear that conditioning is coming. As I was reading tonight "Speeches" (Do you remember the book?) This quote from MLK Jr. made me think of how you approach your work and your adventures. "All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." Thoughts and prayers from the Island. Brent

Lou,
It's exciting to read your progress. You're as tenacious in biking as ministry! Maybe there's no difference. May God continue to bless you and all the others.
Best,
Pete
