Another state - Illinois
We have arrived in Illinois after an 82-mile day. It was perhaps the best day of the entire trip for me. It was cool, under 80 degrees the entire day. We were in the Midwest. I love to see the Holstein cattle, the hay fields, corn and soybeans, and smell rural America. The roads were good. We were on secondary roads for the most part. Traffic was moderate but challenging. No big road cracks and potholes. It was hilly but not unreasonably so. Trees are everywhere.
We were welcomed in small town American in a place called Delavan by the CRC church. They provided a meal and much enthusiasm and encouragement. I rode with Brent. He is 20. He was married three weeks before embarking on this nine week odyssey. Christeena is eighteen and the youngest of the bicyclist. She is a college student. I kept up with them the whole day. Do I feel great or what! A great ride and a great day ... in spite of another flat tire.

Hi there, we're reading all the blogs and thoroughly enjoying them. Our son Theo is on tour too. If Christeena is the youngest, then Alex Vangeest must be second youngest. He wanted to do the Canadian '05 tour but was too young then so he is glad he made this one.

Lou,
We are interested in how you will travel around Chicago on this trip. Enjoy those relatively cool days. Way to keep up with those kids!
