Day 47 Chesterton, IN to South Haven, MI - 74 Miles

After six weeks of praying and wondering how he was REALLY doing, I met Lou in South Haven along with my daughter Natalie and her two boys. Nick and Alex raced up to Grandpa when they saw him in camp. I was a little more reserved ...... but it sure was good to get that bear hug and kiss.

He looked great but was obviously tired from the 74-mile day he had just finished. We walked around the camp, met a lot of his new friends, and then took him out to dinner where we met my brother Brian who lives in Grand Haven. Brian is the CFO of the Grand Haven hospital and arranged to open the hospital Wellness Center for any of the cyclists who wished to take advantage of the facilities which includes a number of swimming pools and hot tubs.

It was really interesting watching the interactions in the camp, setting up and serving supper to that many people; watching bikes being serviced, people hanging wet clothes (including hubby below) on their tents or nearby trees. It was certainly fascinating to see the well-oiled workings of a small community in action.

Tomorrow will be an easier and shorter day as they cycle from South Haven to Grand Haven and setting up a new camp at the CRC Conference grounds. As was the case today, I am sure there will be an abundance of friends and relatives greeting the riders as they ride into camp, congratulating them on the 2996 miles already traveled and encouraging them to the finish line in New Jersey in two weeks.
