First Century Day ................ 113 miles from Sioux Center to Algona, IA
There is no Internet availability tonight so I received a verbal update from Lou. Last night Dordt College hosted the entire group with free rooms, free dinner and free breakfast this morning. Approximately 300 people assembled last night for a wonderful celebration time and walked through the ministry fair booths set up by the cyclists. Donations continue to come in as people learn more about the purpose of Sea to Sea.This morning was the first rain of the trip and 3 hours of a steady downpour makes for a very soggy ride. Lou had his first episode of his bike chain coming off but that was easily fixed. While riding with Fred Folkerts (shown at the right) who is from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, they stopped at 2 CRC churches along the way who were offering drinks, oranges, doughnuts and other refreshment. These were Hospers CRC and Primghar CRC.
The only town in Iowa they stopped in was Whittemore and they went into a local bar and bought some chips and lemonade. After hearing about what they were doing, the hostess handed them a twenty dollar bill for the cause and a man who ordered a Scotch pulled out a dollar and gave that as well.
More later when the Internet is revived........
P.S. If there is anyone who would like the maps and meditation book, "Shifting Gears", we would be happy to send one to you as our gift. Just email jehaveman@comcast.net to request one.
