July 31 .......... more reflections from Lou

The day was long, over 95 miles, and hot, over 95 degrees. But the rolling hills of Nebraska with acres and miles of corn seduced us. Today we have now completed over 50% of the days on the road and over 50% of the distance. In spite of a flat tire we were in camp this afternoon at 2:15 P.M. I started bicycling at 6:20 A.M.

I believe my average was 13.5 miles per hour. I was pretty excited about that as an over all average until I was chatting with two others. One young man averaged over twenty miles per hour, another over 18 miles per hour. I was silent.

Still, I did it. Life on the bicycle is getting easier. I may not sell my bicycle until next Spring and see what I feel like then. I asked Jess, a young serious attractive young woman in the supper line what profound thought or insight she had picked up today. She said her bicycle seat broke and that taught her that things often do not work as they are supposed to work. She asked me the same question. I said I had not a single unique thought. Days of our lives are like that. They are routine. Still, I get up every morning anticipating a new insight. Tomorrow I am going to think about what I could do as a self-employed entrepreneur over the next ten years. Oops, I was going to think about that today.

Lou

  • Congratulations on making it to the half way mark...I am curious how much weight have you lost? I was planning on contributing more for every pound you lost, so I have to know how many pennies to set aside :)

  • Hey, Lou, looked like you had a fair amount of downhill today (Fri Aug 1) - hoping that made the ride a little better for you! And I was pretty impressed with your average 13.5 miles per hour! Compared with guys like me who are averaging about 2 miles an hour walking to our offices and sitting at our computers - you are doing something close to light speed, bro! We're proud of you, are following along in the Sea to Sea book, and praying for you Lou - keep it up!
